Metal folding services

The amount of different projects, jobs and designs which use and benefit from metal folding services is staggering. All over the world, companies are using expert metal folding services and dedicated teams of experienced metal folders to construct almost all we see around us, as well as using metal folding to realise visions which will shape the world of tomorrow. Metal folding is a well established industry, involving a range of different skills and techniques which require years to master, but which is constantly evolving and changing to keep up with the new designs which are affecting all of our lives now, and will do for generations to come. What is metal folding? At its heart, metal folding services are those which involve the shaping and forming of metals to suit various functions and fit into all manner of machines and structures as key components. These range from the domestic products you might find in your own kitchen.  Take a look at your oven or fridge, for example, and you’ll see how metal folding has been implemented to shape them in order for them to be constructed as standard  –  right through to highly complex, specialised and custom made machinery used in an astonishing array of ways. Sheet and plate metals are folded with many different techniques.  It uses lots of highly specialised equipment, and part of the skill of the metal folder is understanding implicitly what techniques or materials would be most appropriate to allow the client to realise their vision. Thankfully, nowadays, most metal folding services will be fully equipped with state of the art machinery to...

It may take years of experience to achieve a flawless level of professionalism.  If you take a moment out of your day to look around your workplace, street or town, you’ll begin to notice just how much importance we place in those who know their metalwork.  Not to mention those who know how to keep things strongly joined together. Thanks to welding and fabrication experts, you too could comfortably and affordably benefit from this important service. You could have bespoke products made to precise specifications, or have important components made to measure. Professionalism and flexibility as standard with welding and fabrication experts What makes a welding and fabrication expert? Well, the answer to that question would involve several different facets of the trade. On the one hand, experience is key. Through years of repetition and experimentation, welders become highly knowledgeable about the properties each metal possesses, and what one can do with the material. Key skills such as using both MIG (metal inert gas) and TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding are used appropriately and to the very best effect.  Everything is taken into account by the welder when considering what the desired effect is, and what the client specifies. For example, if the client requires a particular finish on the end result, the expert welder and fabricator will take the time to select the correct materials and the correct method for...

Metal rolling services for all sizes

Metal rolling services for all sizes

In metalworking, precision is key and it is vital that the metal is of a uniform thickness, and this is where Sheet Metal Services’ metal rolling services come in. To the uninitiated, sheet metal rolling services are a process whereby metal is passed through one or more pairs of rollers to reduce the thickness of the metal and make the thickness consistent. The principal is similar to the rolling of dough. There are generally two types of sheet metal rolling services: hot and cold. Hot metal rolling involves heating the metal and then being worked on. It is usually used to produce sheet metal or cross sections, such as rail tracks, but there are a multitude of uses for hot rolled metals. For example, it is often used in the automotive sector, for truck frames, wheel rims and clutch plates. It is also used in such things as water heaters, agricultural equipment, railcar components, metal buildings, doors, shelves and rail guards. Meanwhile, cold rolling usually takes place with the metal at room temperature and the process increases the strength of the product as well as improving the surface finish. Typical cold-rolled products include sheets, strips, rods and bars. Cold rolled metal is used in a wide range of products, from office furniture such as filing cabinets, desks, chairs and shelves, to computer cabinets and hardware. It is also used in home appliances, lawn movers, water heaters, metal containers, lighting fixtures and much more.   At our Kidderminster base, our on-site rolling facility can handle sheets up to 5mm in thickness, in varying sheet sizes. We at Sheet Metal Services...
Metal cutting services – a vital part of the project

Metal cutting services – a vital part of the project

Metal cutting services are vital for many manufacturing companies, and there are a variety of ways it can be done to get the right result. For many manufacturing projects, cutting metal into the required parts is one of the earliest and most fundamental jobs. But it is a job that requires precise metal cutting services: if the parts cut are even just a fraction out, it can compromise the whole project. This is why plasma cutting has become so popular in the industry. The process, which basically involves creating an electrical channel of ionized gas – plasma from the plasma cutter itself – through the work piece to be cut, thus forming a completed electric circuit back to the plasma cutter via a grounding clamp, means that metal can be cut to a high precision. At our base in Kidderminster, Sheet Metal Services offers metal cutting services to cut a wide variety of section and plate materials. For instance, sheet materials such as steel, aluminium, brass and copper can be plasma cut up to a maximum thickness of 10mm. In addition, our CNC software enables us to translate customer drawings and develop complex sections into working patterns, from which fabrication can then be undertaken. We work with our customers to ensure that the end product exactly meets their requirements. For materials over 10mm in thickness, we can handle these off site. At Sheet Metal Services, we invest in the latest technology to offer our customers a first-class metal cutting service, whether it is for a one-off or production jobs of any size. We also invest in our people, to...

Ductwork suppliers – providing a crucial yet often ignored aspect of buildings

Ductwork suppliers – providing a crucial yet often ignored aspect of buildings

Ductwork is something that is easy to ignore. For most people it is one of those pieces of engineering that is so commonly seen in buildings, it is taken for granted as it quietly does its job. Yet it is often one of the first things to be considered when a new building is being designed, or when potential buyers are looking to purchase an existing structure. But as ductwork suppliers, this is something we at Sheet Metal Services Midlands know the importance of. For instance, ductwork is crucial for the overall liveability of a building, given its role in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. Attention to HVAC systems and ensuring constant and efficient performance is vital to proper building maintenance. Nobody wants to live or work in a building that is too hot or too cold, for instance. As  ductwork suppliers, we’re very aware of these issues. Well designed and manufactured ductwork can ensure the smooth running of a HVAC system and that is something we are expert in and passionate about. At our base in Kidderminster, we are manufacturers and ductwork suppliers for all particular requirements, be it circular or rectangular, for instance. Likewise, we can fabricate ducting from a range of materials, including mild, galvanised or stainless steels of varying gauges or aluminium. Our expert team at Sheet Metal Services offer a complete service, bespoke to the needs of the customer, where we can design, manufacture and install any type of ductwork system. Or, should the customer want to assemble the ductwork themselves, we can manufacture it in sections, which can be slip...
